Our New Name Is EWE Tours
Our New Name Is EWE Tours
We have changed our company name from “Cosmic Volunteers” to EWE Tours!
The change officially starts today, Jan 1, 2024.
The name “Cosmic Volunteers” had served us well beginning in 2002 when we first registered the business in Pennsylvania.
As “Cosmic Volunteers,” we sent 1,500+ volunteers on mostly individual trips to more than a dozen countries in Asia, Africa and Central and South America. They served at children’s homes, schools, clinics, media companies, wildlife parks and more. Many of the volunteers traveled solo and were led by our local coordinators during their stays.
What will be different with EWE Tours?
1. For many years our participants traveled solo from home then volunteered as individuals at various projects. Now, our participants travel in a group of their peers from home and experience daily activities with each other.
2. Service projects are a still a part of our trips with EWE Tours, but they are not the only feature of the trips. Our student tours also feature cultural immersion, group activities and educational sessions on local life and history.
3. Previously, we ran programs in more than a dozen countries. Now we are offering programs in just a handful of countries — the favorites of our staff and past travelers. This way, we will have more continuity with local program partners and have even stronger ties to the communities where we travel.
4. Finally, all our trips will be led by our Director Scott Burke, as well as our local host-country partners. Parents can rest assured that we are on the ground 24 hours making sure their children are safe and healthy and getting the most out of their experience.
What does “EWE” mean?
The word is a homage to our long-time program partners in Ghana, who have become like family since we first met them in 2006. They are part of the EWE Tribe whose people are based in the Volta Region of Ghana. For many years Ghana was the most popular destination for our travelers.
How is “EWE” pronounced?
It’s a two syllable word. to say it phonetically — it’s a long “A” followed by “way” with the accent on the “A”.
