EWE Tours Announces Costa Rica Volleyball Pilot Tour Combining Sports, Service, Adventure and Cultural Immersion
Six-day program gives young volleyball players the opportunity to train and compete with Costa Rican athletes while experiencing the country beyond the volleyball court
PHILADELPHIA – September 4, 2026 – EWE Tours, a Philadelphia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization specializing in international sports and cultural travel, has announced its Costa Rica Volleyball Pilot Tour, a six-day, five-night international experience designed for women and men ages 16-22.
The program will be offered from January 2-7, 2027. Teams and individual players are welcome to participate, and coaches and parents may also join the tour.
Unlike a traditional sports trip, the Costa Rica Volleyball Tour combines competitive volleyball, community service, cultural exchange and adventure into one international experience. Participants will spend four days training, attending clinics and playing friendly matches while connecting directly with Costa Rican volleyball players and coaches.
“Our goal is to use volleyball as the vehicle that brings young people and coaches together,” said Scott Burke, Director of EWE Tours. “The volleyball is an important part of the experience, but the trip is about much more. We want participants to experience Costa Rican culture, meet local families and athletes, serve the community and challenge themselves through new adventures. We want them to come home with memories and relationships that last far beyond the final match.”
Volleyball – and Much More
During the six-day program, participants will experience a variety of activities showcasing Costa Rica’s sports, culture and natural beauty. Highlights include:
• Four days of volleyball training, clinics and matches
• Joint training and cultural interaction with Costa Rican volleyball players
• Visits to Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens
• A rainforest adventure in Sarapiqui
• A visit to Jaco Beach and Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast
• Volunteer service with a sea turtle conservation project
• A shared meal with a Costa Rican host family
• Cultural activities designed to introduce participants to everyday life in Costa Rica
The tour is designed to give young athletes opportunities to build independence, leadership skills and cross-cultural understanding while sharing their love of volleyball with athletes from another country.
An Accessible International Sports Experience
The program fee is $1,595 plus airfare. The package includes airport meet-and-greet service, private transportation, five nights of accommodations, daily breakfast, lunch and dinner, volleyball clinics and joint training, friendly matches, youth clinics, cultural activities, beach activities, volcano and waterfall excursions, rainforest adventures, local bilingual coordinators, 24-hour support, and a program T-shirt and certificate.
EWE Tours believes international sports travel can provide an educational experience that is difficult to duplicate in a classroom or through traditional competition alone. By combining athletics with service and meaningful interaction with local people, the organization seeks to help participants better understand both Costa Rica and their own place in an increasingly interconnected world.
Trip Leadership
Along with Mr. Burke, Costa Rican Rebeca Bolaños will serve as co-leader of the trip. Rebeca is the Head Coach of Voleibol San Pablo, a former Costa Rican national team player, and a coach & training consultant. She is also the Director of Amistad Abroad which has hosted international students for sports, service, and language programs in Costa Rica for over 20 years.
