Costa Rica Basketball Tour

Our Costa Rica Basketball Tour offers players the unique opportunity of competing abroad, while doing volunteer work and enjoying adventure excursions. Your basketball team can compete in 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 against local Costa Rican players. All while immersing you in Costa Rica’s culture where you can make new friends and even improve your Spanish. Bring your school team, AAU team, or assemble a team for the trip.

Trip Highlights

4 Basketball Games. Compete in min-tourney’s against Costa Rican players. Locations include the capital city of San José and the beach towns on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

Adventure Excursions. Rainforest excursions including wildlife viewing, ziplining, waterfall swims, and hanging bridge hikes. Beach time on the Pacific coast for swimming, surfing class and seafood dinners.

Community Service. Volunteer and give back to the local community. Available activities include holding basketball clinics for local kids, serving meals at food banks, and turtle conservation.

Cultural Immersion. Make new friends and learn about the culture and wildlife of Costa Rica. Practice Spanish & enjoy new foods as you meet Costa Rican players and host families.

Team Building. Experience a life-changing trip abroad with your teammates. Experience competitive basketball along with excursions, service and cultural immersion in Costa Rica.

Itinerary

Day 1: Departure Flight
Fly from Newark NJ (EWR) to San José, Costa Rica (SJO). Orientation then walking tour of San José with stops at the National Theater, Central Park, and the Central Market. Basketball practice in the evening. Overnight in San José.

Day 2: San José
Volunteering at a food bank in the morning. Basketball game #1 then conduct a basketball clinic for youth in Heredia, San José. Group dinner with local basketball players. Overnight in San José.

Day 3: La Fortuna
Rainforest hiking excursion with views of Arenal Volcano. Basketball game #2. Evening dinner buffet and hot springs swim. Overnight in La Fortuna.

Day 4 : La Fortuna
Zip-lining through the rainforest canopy, along with a waterfalls swim. Overnight in La Fortuna.

Day 5: Jaco
Travel to the beach town of Jaco. On the way, stop to walk over the famous Crocodile Bridge at the Tarcoles River. Beach fun in the afternoon including surfing lessons. Basketball game #3 in the evening.

Day 6: Jaco
Visit a sea turtle conservation project in the morning. Then volleyball matches against local teams in the afternoon. Beachside dinner.

Day 7: San José
Return to San José. Basketball game #4. Homemade lunch and cooking lesson with a local Costa Rican family. Shopping for souvenirs and program wrap-up dinner.

Day 8: Departure Flight from San José (SJO)
