Volcán de Fuego or “Volcano of Fire” is an active volcano in Guatemala. Part of the Sierra Madre mountain range, it’s about 10 miles west of Antigua the base of our student tours in Guatemala.
Known as one of Central America’s most active volcanoes, Volcán de Fuego has been erupting regularly for centuries, with powerful bursts of ash and lava lighting up the sky.
A couple of ways to see Fuego in action:
Join our house building project in Guatemala. On break time, just turn around and take a look in Fuego’s direction and look for the ash and fire spewing out.
You can get an even closer front-row seat to the natural spectacle of Volcán de Fuego from the slopes of nearby Volcán De Acatenango. It’s a strenuous multi-day hike to climb Acatenango. Or there are adventure companies with 4×4 vehicles that will take you to the top:
